About the Project

LIFE PAYT - Tool to reduce waste in South Europe is a LIFE Environment Project co-funded by the European Commission. The duration of the project is 40 months starting on the 1st of September 2016.

The main purpose of the project is to support local authorities in adopting PAYT ("Pay-as-you-throw") waste tariffs, which will encourage waste prevention and source segregation practices, fostering separate collection. It is also an objective of the project to extend developed methodologies to other municipalities, thus contributing to a resource efficient Europe and to the implementation of the European environmental strategies and Policies.

5 municipalities in Portugal, Greece and Cyprus (Lisbon, Condeixa-a-Nova, Aveiro, Vrilissia and Larnaca) will implement the project in their territory, in partnership with the Polytechnic of Coimbra, the University of Aveiro and the National Technical University of Athens.
