Zero – Associação Terrestre Sustentável – states that Portugal does not know how much solid waste produces, nor how much recycles.
The conclusion comes after detailed analysis of the data provided by the Portuguese Environment Agency and the Regulatory Authority for Water and Waste Services in Portugal.
The figures presented by the two entities do not match. Between the two there is a difference of 200 thousand tons, which leads Zero to conclude that there is no credibility to assess the waste that is truly treated in Portugal.
Zero also adds that the Portuguese Environment Agency does not know how many of the waste is recycled in the country.
The two entities, says Zero, receive more than 11 million euros from taxpayers and are failing. That is why it requires the Ministry of the Environment to create a demanding and credible data collection and validation system.
