LIFE PAYT Project is presented at a seminar on waste in Monsaraz

The LIFE PAYT project was presented by the coordinator, Professor Célia Dias-Ferreira, at the Seminar entitled ‘From Waste to New Products – Shared Responsibility’, in Reguengos de Monsaraz, Portugal, on 6th of April.

In addition to the LIFE PAYT project, comparative data on the PAYT system in Europe were also presented, pointing to results that serve as an answer to two challenges for waste management: holding individuals accountable for the waste they produce and encouraging positive behaviors through a more fair tariff.

Another topic discussed was the behavior of the Portuguese citizen towards the separation of waste, with only 34% of the population carrying out the wastes separation in a consistent way. Despite this, 11% assume that do not make the wastes separation and the reasons for the negative attitude are: lack of space (24%), distance to the ecopoint (22%) and 6% believes that it is not worth it.
