On November 19th 2019, Dr. Célia Dias Ferreira coordinator of the LIFE PAYT project, met with the European Court of Auditors (ECA), at the premises of the Portuguese Environment Agency, to present the achieved objectives and the obstacles faced during the implementation of the LIFE PAYT project
The presence of the ECA in Portugal is part of an ongoing EU audit action in order to combat and reduce plastic waste. This audit, which also includes other Member States, aims to identify and understand the practices and obstacles in the management of plastic waste throughout the waste hierarchy. Additionally, it also aim at the identification of the barriers to achieve the targets that Portugal as a Member State must comply with.
The ECA is therefore interested in understanding the actions that can contribute to Portugal reaching the European targets for 2030 concerning the plastic management. The information will be included in an analysis document that the Court will prepare after finalizing the visits. The Court’s reports will be published at: eca.europa.eu
