Workshop on “Sustainable waste management” organized by the National Technical University of Athens and Vrilissia Municipality

On the 20th of December 2021, a workshop under the thematic of “Sustainable waste management” targeting academics, researchers and students was organized by the National Technical University of Athens in collaboration with Vrilissia Municipality. To this end, representatives of all academic level of the National Technical University of Athens, as well as representatives of the Association of Secondary Education Officers of Athens B’ Department were invited. Amongst the 28 participants, there were also representatives of technical interest for the project from Vrilissia Municipality. International Workshop on PAYT was a success

The International Workshop on PAYT took place on the 9th of december, 2021. This event showed the implementation of project LIFEPAYT in different municipalities and project beneficiaries shared the knowledge collected over the 5-year project implementation. Virtual Guided tours of the municipalities involved in the project took place during this event, which mirror and reproduce the implementation of the project at the demonstration sites. There were 118 participants, distributed but the academia (35%), municipalities (31%), Regional Waste MAnagement companies (18%), consulting companies (6%), Government (6%), NGOs (3%) among others. The European Union Project Adviser was present at the 6th Monitoring Visit of the LIFE PAYT Project

The 6th Monitoring Visit to the LIFE PAYT Project took place on December 7, 2021. This visit was attended by Dr. Filipa Ferrão from the external monitoring team and the Project Adviser, from the European Union (CINEA), Dr. Cézar Seoánez. Scheduled in advance, this meeting provided for a face-to-face visit to the demonstration site, in Condeixa-a-Nova. However, due to the evolution of the pandemic caused by COVID-19 in the municipality and in the country, the agenda had to be changed and, in the impossibility of carrying out the face-to-face visit, the meeting was held by videoconference. Workshop on “Biowaste Diversion” organized by the National Technical University of Athens

On the 18th of November, a workshop focusing on the diversion of the biodegradable waste from landfills was organized by the National Technical University of Athens in line with LIFE PAYT project. Representatives from the Department of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment of Cyprus, as well as Larnaka Municipality gave thorough presentations focusing on the possible ways of diverting biowaste from landfills. In addition, attention was stressed on the valuable contribution of PAYT schemes on accelerating biowaste diversion from landfills. 3rd edition of the Training Action in Home Composting took place on the 26th of June, in Aveiro

The 3rd edition of the Training Action in Home Composting took place on the 26th of June, in Bairro da Forca-Vouga, in Aveiro. The action had the participation of residents who live in houses and who received the compost kit. This third and last training action was recorded, so that it can be viewed by all who are interested in better understanding what this composting process consists of, sensitizing and empowering, in this way, not only the residents of Bairro da Forca-Vouga, like the general population. Training session for local elected representatives: “Waste Management and PAYT Tariff Systems”

At a time when national legal regulations impose the implementation of PAYT-type tariff systems by municipalities in the short/medium term, it is essential that decision-makers have sufficient tools that allow them to recognize the environmental and economic sustainability associated with this type systems in order to make informed decisions. In this context, the LIFEPAYT Project promoted, on the 24th of June 2021, a training session for local mayors, entitled “Waste Management and PAYT Tariff Systems”. LIFEPAYT Project carries out SURVEYS on waste and pilot experience with PAYT containers, in Aveiro

After the pilot experience that took place at Urbanização da Forca-Vouga, from 15 September to 16 November 2020, the LIFEPAYT project now intends to ask the residents of Urbanização da Forca Vouga to collaborate in filling out a small online survey. These surveys, addressed to residents and merchants of the Urbanização da Forca-Vouga, aim to gather information on the perception and behavior of citizens in relation to urban waste, taking into account their experience with containers with PAYT access control for waste disposal undifferentiated urban areas. 3rd Training Action on Domestic Composting in the Urbanization of Forca-Vouga (Aveiro)

The 3rd Training Action on Domestic Composting will take place on the 26th of June (Saturday), from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, outdoors, on the street of Guiné Bissau, in Aveiro. WORKSHOP “PAYT in Portugal…what future?” carried out by the LIFEPAYT Project team was a success

The Workshop “PAYT in Portugal…what Future?” which took place online on May 6, 2021, aroused national interest and brought together representatives of the most diverse entities with responsibilities in the field of waste: from regulatory and legislative bodies, responsible and technicians of waste management systems, municipalities, municipal companies and Academy. The high number of applications received, from North to South of the country, from the most diverse entities, clearly showed the relevance of the theme in today’s society.
